Session: AI-First Community Design: Let’s Build Together
What happens when we build communities with AI baked in from day one? In this interactive session, we’ll roll up our sleeves and find out together.
I’ll bring the demos, you bring the questions and ideas. We’ll explore three areas where AI has potential in changing how we build open source communities:
- Community Architecture: See how AI can connect contributors with complementary skills and create personalized pathways for participation—right from a project’s first days. We’ll map volunteer interests in real-time and watch as connection opportunities emerge.
- Knowledge Systems: Help build a living knowledge base that grows smarter with every interaction. We’ll test how AI can make community knowledge accessible to everyone without burying maintainers in repetitive questions.
- Health Monitoring: See how AI can spot potential issues before they escalate. We’ll collaborate on approaches that prevent spam and toxicity while keeping human judgment at the center.
This won’t be just me talking. You’ll test the prototype tools, contribute to live experiments, and help shape new approaches to community building.
Your insights—including where you think I’m wrong and the AI is hallucinating—will drive our exploration.
You’ll leave with practical ideas for implementing AI in communities of any size, access to the tools we play with, and hopefully some new connections made through our shared exploration.
Come with your skepticism, your experience, and your curiosity. Let’s rethink community building together.
